It's the cinematic approach to storytelling. I mean, are Telltale games RPGs? Would anyone say that? I like to call these types of games "interactive fiction" or "interactive movies". Just because dialogue is more similar to Mass Effect, don't make anything more "RPG", I'd say. Judge the game by itself, not to how it arbitrarily fits within definitions we've made up, yadda, yadda.īut! If we're to have this argument, idk if that's a good move. Like, I know that genres are all a bunch of crap anyway and especially in modern day they blend together so much, it can be difficult to make heads or tails of it. ![]() ![]() This game definitely borrows elements of Visual Novels, but its dialogue system is far more akin to a Mass Effect styled game (aka a RPG), and it's not like RPGs haven't used Visual Novel elements before, just look at Persona.Īll being said, I'd say it's definitely a VN/RPG hybrid game, so calling it a "Roleplaying Musical" isn't exactly wrong.
